A new visible oscillating chemiluminescence in the KSCN-H2O2-CuSO4-Luminol in the presence of tetraalkylammonium hydroxide (such as TMA and TEA) has been investigated. The reaction was studied at pH 12-13 in a batch reactor. Narrow and slightly asymetric light pulses of about 10-s half-width are emitted at 424 nm with a period of 5-22 min depending on concentration of the composition in batch reactor. Addition of fluorescein leads to a more complex chemiluminesecence that shows electronic energy transfer from luminol to the longer wavelengths.
In each series of experiments the concentration of one of the components has been varried while the othe ones held constant. The oscillating period as well as oscillating amplitude have been studied. Results indicated that all components can be affect on both oscillating period and oscillating amplitude. Results also show the light pulses are more narrower when Tetramethylammonium hydroxide (TMAOH) is used as a base rather than that of Tetraethylammonium hydroxide (TEAOH).
