UCSB Campus

Davidson Library

UCSB is an academic community known internationally for its excellence and innovation. A member of the Association of American Universities, this vibrant, energetic campus consisting of about 17,600 undergraduates, 2,500 graduate students, and 800 faculty members, ranks with Harvard, Stanford and UC Berkeley among the leading institutions of higher learning in the U.S. and Canada. Students know it as a friendly, welcoming place with a large variety of stimulating opportunities both academically and personally. The quality of the faculty testifies to the strength of UCSB's academic programs and the quantity and quality of its research.

Sandwiched between coastal mountains and the Pacific Ocean, the UCSB campus is ideal site for field and laboratory research and education in ecology, evolution, and marine biology. Faculty and students in EEMB are within close range of a myriad of unique environments including the oceanic Pacific, deep coastal basins, estuarine, subtidal and intertidal marine coastal ecosystems near major faunal boundaries, and mountain, chaparral, oak woodland, desert, island, and coastal terrestrial and freshwater habitats. EEMB research studies are also underway throughout California, Alaska, the continental US and in such regions as the south Pacific, the Sargasso Sea, Central and South America, and Antarctica.

The campus offers students and scholars an opportunity to live and learn in a stunning setting on the shores of the Pacific. The Santa Barbara area's natural beauty and mild climate provide almost unlimited opportunities for year-round outdoor activities including hiking, camping, scuba diving, surfing, hang-gliding, mountain biking, sailing and windsurfing. The City of Santa Barbara offers excellent cultural amenities including internationally recognized performances of theater, music, dance and other performing arts, art galleries and numerous festivals.
