·        Used PCR, gel electrophoresis, frozen sectioning, and fluorescent immunohisto-

chemistry to study the production of insulin in beta cells with Dr. Åsa Apelqvist.

 

Clinical Research Intern, Sansum Diabetes Research Institute (SDRI),

Santa Barbara, California (6/00-9/00)

·        Studied current therapies for diabetes mellitus and advised diabetic patients on nutrition

      and insulin dosing; developed a lesson plan for informational sessions.

·        Coordinated a clinical trial investigating the action of insulin aspart for Novo Nordisk Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (including the presentation of the clinical trial protocol for

Institutional Review Board approval and the trial results to scientists at SDRI).

 

Laboratory Research Assistant, Department of Biology,

·        Investigated the production of anthocyanin in Arabidopsis seedlings in response to

nutrient deficiencies.  Acquired skills in aseptic transfer technique, light spectrophotometry, preparation of nutrient solutions and agar germination plates for Arabidopsis seedlings.

·        Served as an urban missions intern through youth outreach in the inner-cities of Atlanta, GA and Miami, FL.  Tutored low-income, at-risk youth in academics and art, taught and modeled peace-making skills, mediated conflict resolution and cross-cultural communication.

 

Student Leader with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, Stanford University (9/02-6/03)

·        Participated in organizing a residence hall student group for the campus-wide fellowship. Taught Bible studies.  Responsible for community building and encouraging teamwork.

 

Team Member with IMPACT, Presbytery of Santa Barbara in Antalya, Turkey (July 2002)

·        Organized and implemented a two-week summer program on American culture for

Turkish youth in Antalya, Turkey.  Goals included team-building and reconciliation,

as well as cross-cultural awareness and sensitivity to the needs of others.

·        Served at the St. Paul Cultural Center in Antalya, Turkey.  Reached out cross-culturally to learn about Turkish culture and to serve the city through work at the St. Paul Cultural Center.

·        Choreographed routines, coached club members, organized campus-wide dances, taught lessons, and competed in swing competitions (First Place, Stanford Viennese Ball 2001).
