Area of Research
Marine sessile organisms have unique ways of attaching themselves to different substrates. Trying to find out how those systems work will greatly benefit efforts in both anti-fouling and designing of good underwater adhesives. We are using two model systems: mussel Mytilus galloprovincialis and tube worm Phragmatopoma californica in the lab to study this. I am currently working on the biochemical, molecular biological, biophysical and biomechanical study of the adhesive proteins from these organisms.
