Institute for Collaborative Biotechnologies
ICB

The Institute for Collaborative Biotechnologies is a uniquely interdisciplinary, powerful alliance of Academia, Industry and the Army. Led by the University of California, Santa Barbara, in collaboration with MIT, Caltech, the Army and Industry partners, the ICB transforms biological inspiration into technological innovation.

Materials Research Laboratory
MRL

MRL supports interdisciplinary research in materials-related areas, particularly the development of new types of structured materials and bio-materials. The MRL currently involves 30 faculty from 10 departments.

Marine Science Institute
MSI

MSI is the focus for marine, coastal zone, and freshwater research; marine policy studies; and educational outreach in marine science at UCSB. It brings together over 100 faculty and professional researchers and over 580 postdoctorals, technical and administrative staff, and graduate and undergraduate students spanning 14 disciplines from marine biology to marine geology and physical oceanography to marine biotechnology. It consists of 4 centers and is regional headquarters for the management of 7 University of California Natural Reserve sites.

Neuroscience Research Institute
NRI

NRI supports an interdisciplinary group of scientists with a common interest in neuroscience research. The range of scientific interests of members of the Institute extends across basic biology and medicine, pharmacology, psychology, and chemistry.
