Graduate Union of Molecular Biology Investigators

Friday Noon Seminar

Friday Noon Seminar (Cross-listed MCDB/BMSE 262) is a required seminar for MCDB and BMSE students. FNS is truly an excellent opportunity for graduate students to present their research to their peers, giving an opportunity to gain experience and constructive feedback. FNS also keeps students informed of the research projects of fellow graduate students, and provides a weekly chance to chat. Students in their 5th, 4th and 3rd years sign up to present in Fall, Winter and Spring quarters, respectively. The talk is usually a 45 minute Power Point presentation, and questions can be fielded from the audience during and after. Students fill out simple evaluation forms for each speaker and these are essential for providing the presenter with valuable input. FNS is held in a lecture hall on campus, and lunch is provided. No faculty is present during FNS, providing a unique peer-only environment. In addition, cash awards are given every year for best presentations and most participation. See you at "FNS"!

Additional Required MCDB & BMSE Seminars

All graduate students are required to enroll in, and attend these seminars. The cross-listed seminars MCDB/ BMSE 260 & 263 provides a chance for students to participate in presentations from distinguished faculty and faculty candidates, and to be exposed to novel research on a variety of fronts. At the beginning of each week, a schedule of Biology Seminars is sent to the BioSeminars listserve, and MCDB Seminars frequently take place Thursdays at 3:30 in LSB 1001. Most weeks there is an opportunity to have lunch at the Faculty Club with the speaker and several other graduate students. Students also have the opportunity to invite and host a speaker. Coffee, tea and cookies are served. Hint: BYOMug.
