The Museum of Systematic and Ecology (MSE) houses Zoological Collections including Vertebrate and Invertebrate Collections. The Vertebrate Collection contains over 32,000 avian, mammalian, herpetological and fish specimens from around the world, with special emphasis on the vertebrates of the central and southern coast of California. The Invertebrate Collection contains over 15,000 arthropods collected primarily in California.

The Herbarium includes a vascular plant collection with a strong emphasis on the higher plants of the central and southern coast of California. A algae, lichen, paleobotany and several special collections are also part of the herbarium.
